Privacy Policy for QR Generator with Tracking

Last Updated: [9/17/2025]

This Privacy Policy describes how the QR Generator with Tracking plugin (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and discloses information when you generate a QR code or when someone scans a QR code created with our plugin.

1. Information We Collect

When a user scans a QR code generated by this plugin, we automatically collect and store the following information in our database:

  • QR Code Identifier: The unique ID of the scanned QR code.

  • Scan Time & Date: The timestamp of the scan.

  • IP Address: The IP address of the device used to scan the code.

  • Geolocation Data: An approximate location (country and city) derived from the IP address using third-party services (ip-api.com and ipwho.is).

  • Device Information: The user agent string from the scanner, which we use to categorize the type of device (e.g., iPhone, Android, Windows PC).

  • Referrer Information: How the scan originated (e.g., from a “QR Scanner” app, “Google Lens,” or directly via a browser).

2. How We Use This Information

The information collected is used for the following purposes:

  • To provide tracking and analytics to the creator of the QR code.

  • To generate anonymous, aggregate statistics about QR code scans (e.g., total scans, popular locations, common devices).

  • To operate and maintain the plugin’s core functionality, including redirecting users to the correct URL.

3. Data Storage and Retention

  • Scan data is stored securely in the website’s database.

  • We automatically delete scan records that are older than one month to minimize data retention.

  • QR code definitions (the ID and target URL) are also deleted if they are older than one month and have not been scanned within that period.

4. Information Sharing and Disclosure

  • The collected scan data is only accessible to the website administrator and the owner of the QR code through the statistics dashboard.

  • We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.

  • We use the Google Safe Browsing API to validate URLs for safety before generating a QR code. The URL is sent to Google to check if it is associated with malicious activity. Please refer to Google’s Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.

5. Your Choices

  • As a visitor scanning a QR code, you cannot opt-out of this data collection as it is essential for the plugin’s core functionality.

  • As a website user generating QR codes, you can choose not to use this plugin.

6. Security

We implement reasonable administrative and technical security measures to protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
